At the end of Season 3 in the After Hours Gaming League, the second division in the League of Legends B-League was faced with quite the conundrum: a five-way tie in win/loss ratios (4-6 for the curious). Unfortunately, with the playoffs scheduled to take place the very next week, the event organizers and teams did not have the time to play tiebreaker matches since all these folks have full-time day jobs to worry about. So what is a quick way to sort out the few teams that will be able to go on to the playoffs from those that won’t? Co-op vs AI speed runs, of course!
For those of you who don’t know, League of Legends has a game mode that matches up five human players against five computer-controlled champions, called bots. Currently, there are only two skill levels in this game mode: Beginner and Intermediate, but any Level 30 account (the highest in the game) can easily beat them in a short amount of time. However, with recent improvements in the artificial intelligence system, the bots are a lot better at dragging out the game than before. So the challenge is to beat them as fast as possible, and then the teams with the fastest times will proceed into the playoffs. The catch here is that you only have one chance to get it right. If you mess up, you can’t go back and try again. Here is team Adobe’s run:
